I Can’t Stick Around to Take the Fall, You All
By W. Montgomery
Verse:
It started out near Atlanta, G.A.
Seems there were some fines I didn’t pay
90 days home detention to get through
But I had more important things to do
I tried my thumb on the West Expressway
Got a ride from some kids in a ragtop Chevrolet
We were smoking weed and getting kind of fried
They forgot to tell me that it was a stolen ride
Chorus:
I can’t stick around to take the fall, you all
You know I’ve had some problems with the law
Why can’t they just go and let me be
Even a fool’s got a right to be free
Verse:
The driver’s girl, Betty Sue, wasn’t shy at all
I go crazy when I hear that Georgia drawl
The driver said, Boy, I’ll see your ass in hell
If you don’t stop trying to ring my southern belle
Verse:
A trooper ran us down near the Alabama line
I got the drop on him, left him moaning in the pines
I surely didn’t mean to hurt him none
It’s so sad to see a cop without his gun
Chorus:
I can’t stick around to take the fall, you all
You know I’ve had some problems with the law
Why can’t they just go and let me be
Even a fool’s got a right to be free

Verse:
I took the wheel and turned it to the south
The driver didn’t like that Glock auto in his mouth
The couple in the back jumped out and lightened the load
I guess they lost their love for the road
We stopped for gas about two hours from the gulf
The chump at the pump was acting mighty tough
I showed him the gun and the smirk fell from his face
And I helped him back to the office to open the safe
Chorus:
I can’t stick around to take the fall, you all
You know I’ve had some problems with the law
Why can’t they just go and let me be
Even a fool’s got a right, (right to be free) to be free
Verse:
We hit the roadblock across from a railroad yard
Ten police cruisers and they called out the National Guard
A crowd had gathered, they were all messed up with beer
They hadn’t seen this much excitement in years
I said Betty Sue take off your clothes and walk towards the cops
I tossed the cash in the air and the drunks dove in as it dropped
During the commotion I took off into the woods
A few months in jail will do that little hussy good
Chorus:
I can’t stick around to take the fall, you all
You know I’ve had some problems with the law
Why can’t they just go and let me be
Even a fool’s got a right to be free
